Defining Holistic Health Care

Aristotle - Health
It’s not something new it’s been a way of healing and living for a long time.

Aristotle - Holistic Health Care ( also known as Wholelistic Health Care ) is the consideration of everything that could benefit a person’s good health.  The person’s physical, mental, and spiritual being as a whole, is the dynamic for treatment.  Not specifically spiritually religious, but the spiritual awareness is fundamental in alternative medicine.  Holistic Health is really a way of life.
Holistic healing historically has its roots in India and China more than 5,000 years ago.   Aristotle concluded that the importance of holism was “the whole is more than the sum of the parts.”   “A person should look at e body as a whole, not in parts,” noted philosopher Socrates in the 4th century BC.
"Holism and Evolution" was defined as, "the tendency in nature to form wholes that are greater than the sum of the parts through creative evolution," as introduced by Jan Christiaan Smuts in his book – “Holism,” published in 1926.  In the 70’s holistic medicine became more established, and is now acknowledged as a method of medical practice.
Modern medicine challenged Holistic Health Care and Alternative Health care during much of the last century, resulting in the neglect by many, especial in the west.  Believing that drugs could solve everything gave false promise that doctors could treat anything with a shot or a pill.  For many illnesses the treatment by drugs often has side effects and are as harmful or more than the disease itself.  With cancer and serious chronic health conditions the treatments that are offered by modern medicine are not always effective, so it was only natural again that the holistic way of health and well being has become so widely accepted in recent years.
Lifestyle and habit have the biggest effect on a person’s health according the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention   The quality of medical care is only 10%, heredity problems account for 18%, a person’s environment is 19%, and individual choice in everyday lifestyle is the majority at 53%.
Concerning the treatment of disease, Holistic Health principles, then often referred to as Holistic Medicine, are considered by healthcare professionals.  By using the holistic approach they’ll recommend treatments that support the body's natural healing system and consider the whole person and the whole situation.
The benefits of Holistic Health are attaining the greatest overall wellness, therefore fending off disease.  When a person requires treatment for illness using Holistic Medicine and Alternative Medicine or natural remedies - the whole person, body, and mind is treated considering the big picture.
